Burel Mountain Hotels is more than a project; it's a lifestyle connected to the mountains, their culture, and their people. A true tourism experience in the Serra da Estrela. It all began in 2006 with our first hotel, Casa das Penhas Douradas – Burel Expedition Hotel , which seeks an expeditionary relationship with the region, offering explorations contextualized by the Scientific Expedition to Serra da Estrela, organized by the Lisbon Geographical Society in 1881.
In 2018, we opened our second hotel, also a house: Casa de São Lourenço – Burel Panorama Hotel , a revival of the former Pousada de São Lourenço. A panoramic hotel overlooking the Zêzere Glacial Valley, where burel (a type of wool fabric) and design invite silent contemplation and appreciation of the landscape.
In 2012, Burel Factory was born with the mission of preserving and regenerating industrial heritage, promoting the mastery of knowledge, the art made by many hands that warp, card, spin and weave on ancestral machines whose sounds have been heard since the 19th century, whose rhythm and beauty enchant us. It ensures the legacy of wool and burel through design, art and textile and scientific innovation, weaving with the threads of the past a sustainable, circular and more authentic vision of the future. And it does so out of a deep sense of commitment.
